Apartment fire forces family out

A fire forced a family out of their apartment Tuesday night.

Shreveport Fire crews were dispatched to 2725 Wilkinson Street, for a reported apartment fire. The call came into the 911 Communications Center at 7:39pm. The first arriving company from Fire Station 7 arrived on scene at 7:41pm and reported smoke and flames visible from the first floor of the apartment.

Fire engine 7 upon arriving verified that all occupants had escaped safely and then performed a secondary search to make sure no other occupants were in the apartment, while simultaneously extinguishing the fire. The fire was placed under control at 7:48 pm. The apartment’s occupants, which included a mother and her 4 young boys escaped unharmed. The apartment sustained moderate damage. No other apartments were affected.

It took the efforts of 9 units— 28 firefighters— just under 10 minutes to bring the situation under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Shreveport Fire Department Investigations Bureau. The American Red Cross was notified and they will provide assistance to the family.

No injuries were reported.
