Appeals court rules in Shreveport Mayor’s favor in lawsuit

Local

The ruling still stands over a lawsuit against the Shreveport Mayor Ollie Tyler.

Last year a judge threw out a defamation case against Mayor Tyler and the city’s Chief Administrative Officer Brian Crawford.
After an appeal, that ruling still stands.

Michael Wainwright and Scott Pernici filed the lawsuit in March of 2017.

It all stemmed from emails involving the city’s water billing controversy.

Mayor Tyler was asked for comment and said she stood by the email and she wouldn’t let Wainwright and Pernici blackmail her.

“The court says that is not defemation. That is the mayor commenting on a matter of public interest that she did not initiate in the media” said Shreveport City Attorney Julie Lafargue.
