An Arkansas man and his girlfriend are behind bars for allegedly trafficking large amounts of drugs to the Texarkana area.

On Tuesday the Bowie County Sheriff’s Office learned that 25-year-old Matthew Smith would be delivering marijuana to the Super Wal-Mart in the 4000 block of New Boston Rd.

Smith was supposed to deliver the marijuana in a white 2-door Nissan Altima that belongs to his girlfriend 25-year-old Cassie Rena Scott.

Once deputies spotted the car they conducted a traffic stop on Interstate-30.

Smith and Scott were removed from the vehicle and a blue duffle bag was recovered from the back seat which contained four bundles of marijuana. The total weight was approximately 4.5 pounds.

Smith confessed to the offense during questioning and was found to also over $2,300 in cash.

Both Smith and Scott were booked into the Bi-State Jail for Possession of Marijuana Over Four Ounces and Under Five Pounds. Their bonds have been set at $30,000.

Smith later bonded out of jail and Scott remains in custody at the Bi-State Jail.
