An Arkansas man has been arrested after being accused of raping a six-year-old girl.

The Fayetteville Police Department says Robin J. Smith, 55, was booked into the Washington County Detention Center on Friday and faces a charge of rape. He’s being held on $500,000 bond, jail records show.

Officials say that on Oct. 10, the six-year-old told her school counselor of sex acts she’d allegedly learned of from Smith. She was then taken to the Children’s Safety Center and interviewed by police.

An arrest report states the child told authorities Smith had been nude with her and performed sex acts with her.

Before he was taken into custody, Smith denied touching the girl, authorities said.
