The Texarkana, Arkansas Recycling Center will close effective Friday, March 16, 2018. The city hopes to resume operation of the facility in the future, but a date is unknown.
Recycling coordinator Brandy Chewning said, Staffing changes made it impossible to continue operation as we were. There are also several challenges in the recycling market that are driving massive changes across the industry, and we would have struggled to meet those demands.”
Chewing said the City is fortunate to still have an option for recycling in Texarkana, Arkansas, and encourages residents to take advantage of Green Texarkana, a monthly recycling drive collecting household materials.
“Basically we are reverting back to the way things used to operate,” she said. “Green Texarkana is how recycling was born in our city and we are going to keep that going. It will be more user-friendly for many residents, since it offers Saturday recycling and single-stream collection.”
Green Texarkana is held the second Saturday of each month at East Third and Hazel streets, from 8am to 1pm. It collects paper, cardboard and household plastics.
