A Shreveport man is behind bars following his arrest in connection with a shooting which seriously injured a local teen Sunday evening.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m. on January 6, 2019, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 800 block of Martha Lane relative to a shooting, As officers arrived at the scene, it was discovered a 16 year old male victim was suffering a gunshot wound to the mid-section. The teen was taken via ambulance to Oschner LSU Health Hospital with injuries described as serious, but non-life-threatening.
Detectives with the Shreveport Police Department’s violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene and launched an immediate investigation into the matter. Since the probe into the shooting began, detectives have worked feverishly in search of a suspect. Based on information and evidence gathered, authorities were able to procure a warrant for the arrest of 19 year old Javarcya Smith. Smith arrived at Shreveport Police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives Monday evening. Following subsequent interviews, Smith was charged with a single count of attempted second degree murder and booked into the Shreveport City Jail. Authorities believe an on-going dispute between the victim and Smith led to the incident.
