Ashdown residents now have access to clean water

The water is running clear after days of discoloration. Residents share how they’re coping with the situation.

Even though the water is now clear, some Ashdown residents say they’re still unsure about using it.”I just took a glass and got it out of the kitchen sink just to look at it. It’s not drinkable or I wouldn’t want to drink it,” said Joe Mac Bennett.

Bennett says his water has been a brownish yellow tint the past few days. Causing him and his wife to use bottled water.

“My wife usually makes the coffee and she’ll get up and just use bottled water for the coffee until it clears up,” said Bennett.

Officials say iron and mineral deposits in the water have caused the discoloration. They assure residents it’s not harmful.“It’s absolutely safe we’ve ran numerous tests on water quality tests city wide ,but especially in that area in the past 48-hours and all the test are coming back near perfect,” said Jason Tomlinson, Water Superintendent.

Tomlinson says they have been flushing fire hydrants to clear up the water.”We’ve been working hard and diligently to get this done as fast as we can. I feel like the problem has almost been resolved at this point,” said Tomlinson.
Officials say if you notice any discoloration, feel free to contact the Ashdown Water Department.
