Attorney General Jeff Landry and Governor Edwards are at odds about the governors’ appointment to the Red River Water Way Commission.
State senators Greg Tarver and Barrow Peacock sent an opinion request to Attorney General Landry.
Landry decided to announce his opinion in person. He says the Governor unlawfully appointed the Caddo Levee District’s attorney Ronald Lattier and not Carolyn Prator to the position. Prator was nominated by the three entities within the commission.
“I want you to understand I am here ensuring that we are going to protect northwest Louisiana’s representation on this commission and we’re prepared to take any action if necessary in order to facilitate that,” said Landry.
Governor Edwards released a statement shortly after saying “Everyone should see this for what it is. Another cheap political stunt from the Attorney General.”
The governor also says Lattier was nominated by the Caddo Commission.
We reached out to Lattier for comment and he says he’s grateful and thankful the governor appointed him to represent the citizens of Caddo Parish and he will perform his duties to the best of his abilities.
Carolyn Prator told NBC 6 she hasn’t looked at Landry’s opinion but did say this is a volunteer position and she just wanted to look out for taxpayers.
