School starts back for students on both sides of the state line tomorrow and police are asking drivers to pay extra attention the road.
As students begin traveling to and from school police ask that drivers are extra careful in school zones.
They urge drivers to always obey the speed limit in school zones. Advise parents to drop off students in designated areas.
Police also ask that motorists stop for flashing red lights on a school bus and refrain from using their cellphone.”So many things can happen in a school zone. You’ve got a bunch of kids. Their behavior sometimes can be very unexpected. So you want to make sure as a driver that you’re paying attention,” said Shawn Vaughn, TTPD, PIO.
Police also ask that parents talk to their kids about safety when walking to and from school.Drivers caught using their phone in an active school zone may receive a fine of up to $200.00.
