MAGNOLIA, Ark. – (KTAL/KMSS)  Peoples Bank has gifted an area university with $50,000.

The money is an installment of a $500,000 commitment toward the Peoples Bank Endowed Dean’s Chair in the David F. Rankin College of Business at Southern Arkansas University. Dean Robin Sronce said the money will be used to not only get students out into their community, but into the world, as well. “Students need to have some exposure to the global community. This makes them much more culturally aware, it makes them more confident, makes them more willing to take some chances.”

Dr. Trey Berry, president of SAU, said the Peoples Bank Endowed Dean’s Chair “provides a permanent source of annual resources to propel research, pursue collaboration and help a dean realize his or her vision.”

Peoples Bank Chief Financial Officer Jonathan Baird praised SAU, calling the school a cornerstone of the community. “Currently we have about 30 employees who are either former graduates or currently enrolled at SAU, so it’s made a huge impact in the business.”

University officials said this is the first endowed dean’s chair at a public university south of Little Rock.
