A Benton man has been sentenced for murdering his ex-girlfriend outside of her Shreveport home nearly three years ago.

On Tuesday Caddo District Court Judge John D. Mosely sentenced 29-year-old Kelvin Dewayne Brown II to life in prison. The term must be served at hard labor, with no possibility of probation, parole or reduction of sentence.

On Nov. 1 Brown was found guilty of second-degree murder in the death of 33-year-old Alicia West back on Dec. 6, 2014.

The murder happened shortly after the couple broke up.  West slashed Brown’s throat and she later died at University Health.

Many of West’s family members were present in court, including her mother, father and aunt. Several friends and advocates for victims of domestic violence were also present for the sentencing.
