A 53-year-old Eros man died Thursday night after the bicycle he was riding was hit by a Chevrolet Yukon in Jackson Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop F.

Clint Caraway was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers were called to the accident around 7:20 p.m Thursday and learned Caraway was riding a Trek bicycle westbound on Louisiana Highway 548 in the lane of travel.

At the same time, 64-year-old Shelby Berry of Eros was driving a 2005 GMC Yukon westbound on 548 behind Caraway. Berry’s Yukon struck the rear of the bicycle in the lane of travel.

At impact, Caraway, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bicycle into a ditch.

Berry was not injured during the crash and impairment was not a factor on her part. Vision obscurement (setting sun) may have been a factor, and this crash remains under investigation.
