Shreveport Police are in the preliminary stages of an investigation into a body found in the Red River Saturday afternoon.

Just before 3:00 p.m. Saturday, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to reports of a deceased person found along the bank of the Red River near Charles and Marie Hamel Memorial Park in the 900 block of Fant Parkway Service Road.

Police arrived, and with assistance from Shreveport Fire Department Personnel  and Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Deputies, were able to recover the body from the river.

At this time, the only information known is that the decedent was a male.

Deputies with the Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office responded and took custody of the remains and both agencies will begin working to identify the man.
