Bossier Schools and Louisiana College partner for college credits

Students in Bossier Parish will soon be able to take courses through Louisiana College in Pineville for regular college credit. The Dual Enrollment agreement was signed by Bossier Superintendent, Scott Smith, and Louisiana College President, Dr. Rick Brewer Wednesday morning.

The online courses will begin in spring 2018. A few of the courses include Art and Music Appreciation, Finite Math, Civilization I and II, Survey of the Old and New Testaments, and Economics, along with nearly 2 dozen others.

Louisiana College discounted the rate of a 3 hour course to $100, but students will pay less than a third of that amount. Earlier this year, the Bossier Parish School Board took action to absorb costs for Dual Enrollment courses.

“”We’re now going to be able to offer 30 plus dual enrollment courses that we were not able to offer before at a ridiculously low amount of $30 dollars per student,” says Superintendent Smith.

Louisiana College’s President was thrilled to be aligned with Bossier Parish, and said over 20 hours will be transferrable.

“The best news is they get a wonderful education and they have a head start on college to a degree that they could bring to our school with 24 hours, maybe even 30,” says Brewer.
