In Texarkana, law enforcement officers from the four states gather to kick off the “Click it or Ticket Campaign”.
Starting today officers will increase their enforcement of seatbelt laws. Officers will target motorists who fail to faster their seatbelts. In 2016 more than 32 million people failed to buckle up. Violators may be fined up to two-hundred dollars.
“Our goal is not to write citations, but we know tickets talk. The click it or ticket program gives us a chance to get out there. Focus on people who are not buckled up. Get the word out, year around, so that people get in compliance and our seatbelt use goes up , fatalities go down,” said Nathan MacKey, Oklahoma State Police.
The campaign will last through June 3rd.
