(KTVE) The Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was shot after responding to a shooting at Miller Street and Deloach Street in Monroe, according to Ouachita Parish Sheriff Jay Russell.

Russel said the deputy was working a four-wheeler theft in the area Saturday night when he was shot in the back through his patrol unit.

The deputy was wearing his bulletproof vest and the bullet ricocheted off the vest and landed in the backseat of his patrol unit.

The deputy’s partner took him to the hospital where he was examined.

Monroe police, West Monroe police, Louisiana State Police, and OPSO are working the scene and looking for suspects.

Russell said several people were at the corner where the shots came from, no suspects have been apprehended.
