Late pick up times for school buses in Caddo Parish is still an ongoing problem for parents. The school system addresses concerns and explains what’s behind the delays.
The transportation department currently doesn’t have any substitute bus drivers, but the district is in need of 30 subs.
To meet the demand often times one driver is forced to cover multiple routes, creating some delays. We’re told most delays range from 15 to 30 minutes, but bad weather creates longer wait times.
Virgin Rachal says, “A lot of parishes, a lot of districts all over the country are having a really hard time not only securing certified bus operators… but also keeping them trained, making sure they can pass those certifications that we need, licensing, physical exams, things of that nature to keep them on the bus. “
Rachal encourages parents to make sure all contact information is up to date, because delay notifications are sent out at 6:30 in the morning and two in the afternoon.
According to her the district is also working to consolidate buses to reduce routes.
