Car hit by train near Maplewood Trailer Park

Local News

Bossier deputies say they worked a crash scene Monday afternoon on Maplewood Drive where a vehicle was struck by a train, causing the occupant of the vehicle to be transported to Ochsner Health System in Shreveport.

Her injuries are being reported as non-life-threatening.

It happened around 5:40 p.m. when the driver of the white Dodge Neon was traveling eastbound across the railroad tracks on Maplewood Drive from the Maplewood Mobile Home & RV Park towards Highway 3.

The vehicle was struck by a southbound Union Pacific Railroad train.

The vehicle turned over in a ditch. Bossier deputies, Benton Fire District 4 and Bossier Parish EMS were quickly on scene and they safely moved the driver up the hill from the watery ditch until she was transported to the hospital.

Police say Louisiana State Police worked the overall crash scene, while Bossier deputies also assisted with traffic in the area.

Union Pacific investigators and risk management personnel were also on scene and the train was able to resume normal operations.

The scene was cleared around 7:40 p.m.
