Child hit by AR deputy’s patrol car

A child has been taken to the hospital after being hit by a sheriff deputy’s patrol car in Arkansas.

It happened just a few minutes before 8 a.m. Friday, according to a news release issued by the Bentonville Police Department.

The scene was the intersection of NE 2nd St. and NE I Street. The BPD says initial reports indicated that the deputy was traveling west on NE 2nd St. from NE J St. when the child ran into the street and was struck by the deputy’s vehicle. 

Police say the child was conscious when he was being placed into an ambulance and was taken to Northwest Medical. There’s no further word on the child’s condition.

A Bentonville schools official says the victim is a student at Washington Junior High School.

No other details are being released and the incident is under investigation.
