Monday night, the Texarkana, Texas board of directors unanimously voted to name Kevin Schutte as the new police chief.
Schutte has served as acting chief since late December. He’s been with the department for more than thirty years.
Schutte said he doesn’t plan to make any big changes. “The future is bright. I know that some of the issues that will be facing the city as a whole is we anticipate experiencing great growth and
with that is going to come some challenges, and so we’re looking forward to meeting those challenges in a positive way and forming great relationships within the community and just continuing the great work that’s already in progress at the department,” he said.
Shutte replaces Daniel Shiner, who recently retired after leading the department for eleven years.
