City demolishes substandard houses

Local

Tuesday, Texarkana, Texas officials began a project to tear down numerous substandard houses.

Officials said it’s part of a plan to improve the city.  In all, nine houses are scheduled for demolition in the Beverly neighborhood.

The houses to be torn down are located on Wilson, Melton and Jerome streets.  City spokesperson Hanan Southard said, “Just offer a playground for danger for a lot of our residents, so by taking these down and removing them from the areas, we provide just an added safety benefit to our residents.”

The demolitions are expected to take about three weeks to complete.
