An area college campus is giving a special salute to our veterans.

Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia hosted a Veterans Day tribute today. Former and current military members from all branches of service were celebrated at the event. The oldest veteran in attendance was 102-years-old, and served in World War II.

“It wasn’t but a few days before we got an invitation that the German Air Force was going to visit us,” said Bob Kehres, veteran, about what he called one of his scariest experiences during his time overseas during the war.

Organizers of the event said it is held annually as a chance to thank the veterans for their sacrifices and bravery.

“We don’t need to forget history and we don’t need to forget the men and women who got us where we are today,” said Deana Taylor, Campus and Community Welfare Coordinator for SAU.
