In the third round of aid for tornado victims in Queensborough, the Caddo Commission voted no.
“For them, it’s a slap in the face to the citizens of Queensborough,” said District 5 representative Jerald Bowman. “It’s a slap in the face to me too.”
In a 7-4 vote today, the commission failed to reach the eight votes needed to give an additional $300,000 to the fund to help the tornado victims from last year. Currently, there are 15 homes that still need repairs done.
“I want to be supportive of our citizens, but I feel like we have been to the well one too many times,” said District 9 representative John Atkins. “I’m going to respectfully deny this.”
One commissioner says this is not the end and more help will be on the way.
“Basically, if I had known that we were going to need this much money, the first round would have had a higher number,” said District 2 representative Lyndon Johnson. “Very disappointing, but the battle is not over yet.”
