CADDO PARISH – (KTAL/KMSS) A man whose body was found in Jeems Bayou in north Caddo Parish over the weekend has been positively identified by the Caddo Parish Coroner’s office.

Howard A. Waldon, 34, from Karnack, Texas, was identified as the man found in the bayou.
According to the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s office, deputies were notified just before 8 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 2019 that a kayaker found the body of a deceased male in the bayou about a half mile south of the Highway 2 bridge.

Sheriff’s investigators said evidence indicated a vehicle had left the roadway, striking the bridge over the bayou and several trees. Divers found a Dodge 1500 pickup submerged in the water, the sheriff’s office reported.

ORIGINAL STORY:

VIVIAN, La. (KTAL/KMSS) The man whose body was pulled from a north Caddo Bayou Saturday morning had been missing almost a week, according to his wife, Amanda Evans Waldon.

The body of 34-year-old Howard Waldon of Uncertain, Texas, was spotted by a Kayacker in Jeems Bayou in Vivian, La., just before 8 a.m. Saturday.

After learning her husband who had been missing almost a week had been found dead, Amanda Waldon told Facebook friends, “My heart is broken, life will never be the same without this pure and good soul.”

Waldon, who went missing in the early morning hours of Sunday, April 14, had been the subject of a massive manhunt, with his wife relentlessly searching alongside multiple agencies from Texas and Louisiana.

After calling Amanda just after midnight to say he was heading home, Waldon pulled out of the parking lot of a Jefferson, Texas, restaurant in his Dodge pickup truck just after midnight. It was the last time Waldon was seen until the Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to Vivian to recover his body and search for his truck.

When Waldon didn’t return home, Amanda reported him missing and the search throughout east Texas and northwest Louisiana began.

Multiple agencies that included Harrison County, Marion County and Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Offices, Jefferson Texas Police Department and Texas Department of Public Safety officers. Even the Cajun Navy 2016 brought boats to east Texas Friday, with plans to begin searching on Saturday.

The search continued throughout the week, but when the call came in to Caddo Saturday morning regarding a body being seen in the bayou, divers were relatively sure they also would locate a truck.

They did, and were able to secure it and pull it from the water Saturday afternoon.
