The Louisiana State Police have confirmed Cotton Valley Mayor Joseph Alexander has been arrested for felony abuse of power.

The LSP received information from the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office requesting assistance.  On two different occasions in 2017, Alexander is accused of mishandling town funds.  He was booked into the Bayou Dorcheat Correctional Center.

Alexander’s arrest is not the first time a Cotton Valley mayor has been arrested.

His predecessor, Comerdis Phillips, was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor eight months after leaving office for using Cotton Valley’s tax ID number to purchase personal goods at Walmart in Springhill.

Phillips, who served two terms as mayor, left office Jan. 1, 2017, after being defeated 54% to 46% by Alexander in the December 2016 runoff election.
