The Caddo Parish School Board votes to renew the charter for Magnolia School of Excellence.

Tuesday the board voted ten to one in favor of renewing the school’s charter for three years with provisions.  The elementary campus has an enrollment of 720 students.

The charter school’s performance score recently dropped from a D to an F.  Shreveport’s NAACP President, Lloyd Thompson expressed his concerns about the school at Tuesday’s meeting.

“That school have failed our kids in Caddo Parish.  We can cover it up.  We can say it ain’t so, but it’s so.  We’ve closed schools right in this board room because the kids weren’t being successful.”

Magnolia’s board said they’re willing to work with the Caddo Parish school system to make improvements to academics and finances.

Jasmine Green was the only board member who voted against renewing the school’s charter.
