Shreveport Police Detectives continue their investigation into a domestic related shooting that claimed the life of a man last week.

Michael Johnson, 29, was pronounced dead at University Health Hospital on August 8, after a domestic struggle ended in gunfire.

Just after 7 p.m. Wednesday, Shreveport Police patrol officers responded to the 2800 block of King Oaks Loop on reports of a shooting.

Officers arrived and located a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the lower body. He was transported to University Health Hospital where he later died.

Investigators with the Violent Crimes and Crime Scene Units responded to the scene and began the process of collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Through those witness interviews and evidence collected from the scene, investigators believe that the male victim and a female were engaged in an argument when the male victim allegedly produced a handgun.

The female was able to disarm the man and both allegedly struggled for control of the gun, which was discharged, striking the victim in the lower body. Following interviews with investigators, the woman was released.

The investigation continues and all findings will be forwarded to the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office for further review.
