A Texarkana man is behind bars after he was stopped for a minor traffic violation and decided to try to evade police with his 7-year-old daughter in the car.
But Brandon Webb ultimately abandoned his car and his little girl so he could run faster. They found him anyway…hiding in a closet with one of his other kids.
It started around 1:40 a.m. today when TTPD Officer Shawn Jacobs stopped Webb for a minor traffic violation in the Dollar General parking lot on New Boston Road.
Webb first gave Jacobs a fake name, but the officer figured out pretty quickly Webb was lying.
Once Jacobs established Webb’s real name, Jacobs told him that he was under arrest. But Webb sped away across the parking lot and through a nearby field.
Jacobs chose not to pursue Webb because the little girl was in the car with him, and he knew who Webb was at that point.
Officers located the car abandoned a few blocks away with neither Webb nor the child inside.
About 10 minutes later, TTPD Officer Misty Tyler saw the little girl, who was crying and not wearing shoes or a coat as she ran all alone on Celeste Street.
Webb hiding inside a closet with one of his other kids in a house on Blanton Street. He was arrested without incident and booked into the Bi-State Jail on charges of Abandoning a Child without Intent to Return, Evading Arrest and Failure to Identify.
A judge set his bond at $120,000 this morning.
Child Protection responded to take care of the little girl.
