The DeSoto Parish School System is receiving national recognition for its school safety.
Last week, a national study on school district safety ranked the DeSoto Parish School System as the fourth safest school system in the State of Louisiana. The study was published by niche.com.
DeSoto Parish School Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley said, “I’m please our efforts have translated into positive reviews for both employee and student safety. It’s unfortunate we live in a world that demands our school and district team to be constantly accessing and aware of security measures.”
The study considered factors such as absentee rates, suspensions, expulsions, student surveys, arrests, and student expenditures. Those factors, along with a few additional factors, provided DeSoto with a favorable rating.
Brumley said, “We view safety as our top responsibility. We also know there is little margin for error-we must get this work right.”
The DeSoto Parish School System continues to encourage students to “speak up” to an adult in the building if they perceive anything that seems unusual and a threat to student safety.
