A woman was arrested early today after she stole a vehicle with an infant still in the backseat, according to a press release from the Carthage Police Department.
Just after 8:30 a.m. today, Carthage police were called to a detail shop beside the Chamber of Commerce on West Panola Street, where a woman stopped and got out of her 2000 model Chevrolet pick-up.
The woman’s 7-month old girl was in her car seat in the back of the vehicle.
When the woman went inside the detail shop, an unknown person to the owner of the truck got in the vehicle and left with the baby still in the back seat.
Carthage Police, DPS, and deputies with the Panola County Sheriff’s Office canvassed the area searching for the vehicle.
A Panola County Sheriff’s deputy had a suspicion of who might have taken the vehicle checked an address in Beckville, Texas.
When the deputy got there, he located the stolen vehicle with the infant still in the backseat of the truck parked there.
The only person at the residence was Amy Brevard. She was taken into custody and charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and kidnapping.
The parents of the child responded and retrieved their truck and their baby. Brevard was transported to the Panola County jail.
The case will be sent to the Panola County District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
