One person was killed Monday morning when a semi slammed into a motorcyclist whose bike was broken down on Interstate-20.

At around 1:23 am, troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on I-20 in Gregg County, four miles west of the Longview city limits.

A preliminary crash investigative report determined a semi, driven by 63-year-old Junior E. Jones of Quitman, was headed east on I-20 when it came across a disabled motorcycle.

The driver and bike were in the middle of the right lane of traffic when they were struck by the 18-wheeler. The man hit was identified as Joel R. Choate of Gladewater.

Choate was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead by Judge James Mathis. His body taken to Croley Funeral Home in Gladewater.

Jones was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
