An elementary school counselor has been arrested for sex crimes against a student in East Texas.
According to Smith County judicial records, Barbara Lynn Orpineda, 31, of Arp, was arrested Wednesday by the Arp Police Department on two counts of improper relationship between a student and educator and two counts of sexual assault of a child.
Orpineda serves as the counselor at Arp Elementary School.
On October 19, Arp ISD officials confirmed to KETK a staff member had been placed on administrative leave following the allegations. However, her name was not confirmed at that time.

Earlier this year, Chris Stewart, who served as a coach at Arp ISD, resigned amid allegations he was sending inappropriate text messages to female students.
She was booked into the Smith County Jail on $200,000. She has since been released.
