Texarkana Regional Airport has accepted a $420,000 grant from the FAA.
The money is for the design of an apron. That’s where aircraft will park when the new terminal is built. The federal grant will cover ninety-percent of the project cost.
Airport Director Mark Mellinger said the other ten-percent of the project money will come from the State of Arkansas. “In order to build the new terminal and the new taxiway we have to have this apron project as well. The new terminal is progressing very well, and also the new taxiway as well, too. We’re still in design on all those, but hopefully we can bid them next year and start construction,” he said.
Officials hope to complete the new airport before 2022. Total project cost is estimated at thirty million dollars.
