Wiley College in Marshall says good-bye to its long-time leader.
The board of trustees held a fare-well banquet for Doctor Haywood Strickland.
He was the college president for 18 years.
He was honored for his work growing the campus with students and modernized buildings.
He hopes his legacy is remembered for his service.
(Dr. Haywood L. Strickland, Wiley College President retiring)
“I hope I leave behind the concept of service hood. Of service leadership. Wiley was founded on the premise that there were folks who could give their all. They contribute mightily to the growth and development of students. When I look back I think I’ve given everything I’d had.”
The ceremony was led by the president of the united negro college fund.
Doctor Strickland says his greatest challenge was securing enough funding for his college.
