FDA: 476 sickened by parasite linked to McDonald’s salads

Hundreds of people became sick after eating McDonald’s salads and now federal health officials are investigating. 

The FDA says there have been 476 confirmed cases of cyclospora infection.

It’s caused by a parasite  and can cause diarrhea and flu-like symptoms.

The illnesses have been found in 15 states and all patients had eaten salads at McDonald’s.

“McDonald’s is committed to the highest standards of food safety and quality and we continue to cooperate and support regulatory and public health officials in their investigations,” the company said in a statementon July 20.

“Consumers who have symptoms of cyclosporiasis should contact their health care provider to report their symptoms and receive care,” the FDA recommended.
