Dozens of kids in Shreveport are heading back to school in style with a new hair do.
Cordezyia Gray is gearing up for fifth grade with a fresh new haircut. “I look fly,” said Gray.
And he’s not the only one. Dozens of students in need receiving some extra attention.
Jahzara Jitt is heading to the 7th grade and can’t wait until her friends see her new do.”They’re just going to be like I like your hair,” said Jitt.
Marvin Horton with up scale barber shop has teamed up with My Spa My Way, Pat Goins Beauty School and J Serenity. to offer free hairstyles to kids in need.”Success starts with the head. When you come in get a new haircut. You feel like a new person,” said Horton.
These hair stylists helping lessen the financial burden going back to school has on parents.
“The kids smiling from ear to ear. The parents smiling from ear to ear because they didn’t have to come out of pocket and they can put that money somewhere else,” said Stacy Williams, J Serenity.
With hopes their simple act of kindness will go along way.”Your gift goes far beyond the hairstyle. It actually motivates encourages and it can actually send a student in with their shoulders square back and smiling,” said Janola Massaquoi, Pat Goins Beauty School.
As for Gray he’s already planning his next visit.”I’m going to ask my mama if I can come here everyday and get my hair cut,” said Gray.
For every new client Up Scale Barbershop is is donating a free haircut to a non-profit organization. Until the end of September.
