Friend of Jose family speaks on DA’s death penalty decision

Local News

A friend of a couple that was killed in November is speaking out after the district attorney says he is seeking the death penalty for their alleged murderer.

“I don’t know if I want to see him die but I don’t want him to ever be able to walk the streets ever. Ever,” said Lisa Clark.

Dewayne Watkins is accused of killing and burning Heather and Kelly Jose in their car after the couple gave him a ride.

“When I first heard about it my first reaction was good, as I’ve gone through and as friends we’ve talked about it. I’m torn you know he has a family,” said Clark.

Clark helped her friend, Heather Jose get a job at her gym.

Heather was supposed to start a work out class but her life was cut short.

Clark made sure the class went on in her honor.

“I still say no matter what we’re doing, if it’s something they want to quit on, you know Heather would be disappointed if you didn’t sweat this thing out,” said Clark.

Clark says although she has conflicting feelings about the death penalty, she knows this for sure.

“If he gets on death row, whether or not he’s ever executed, it ensures that he never gets the chance to get out and do what he did again,” said Clark.

The trial is set being May 13th.
