Garbage stench sticking up a Blanchard neighborhood

A problem in Blanchard has neighbors raising a stink. They say trash trucks are leaking, and leaving a smelly trail in their neighborhood. People in the Northwood Hills neighborhood are complaining about the stench of garbage and hydraulic fluid being left behind on trash pick up day.

Neighbor Frank Robinette says it started three months ago. He says he reported the garbage leakage to the mayor and city utilities department.Robinette says republic waste management corrected the problem, but the problem started again two weeks ago and is worse.
“You call and I had a real good response out of Blanchard utilities and the mayor, but it continues to happen and you think well should I even try to address it because it appears nothing is going to really happen with them maintain their equipment,” Robinette said.

Mayor Jim Galambos sent us this statement.

“I visited with the citizen that called in the complaint a few weeks ago.  After discussion with Frank, I called regional manager with Republic Waste and discussed issues. Republic has a good track record of following up and taking corrective action. Please note that Blanchard roads are maintained by the parish.”

We called Republic Waste Management and have not gotten a response yet.
