Flu season is almost here again and the Miller County Health Department is preparing to hold their first flu clinic of the season next week.
Last year’s flu season in Arkansas was the worst in thirty years with 227 deaths. The CDC said flu season starts picking up in October. It takes about two weeks for the flu shot to take effect.
Officials encourage everyone, no matter where you live, to stop by the free, drive-thru event next week in Texarkana, Arkansas. Julie Huntley, RN, said, “You can spread the flu virus without having symptoms and a lot of people don’t realize that. You feel healthy but you’re actually carrying the flu virus and you’re around someone who may not be very healthy.. it’s real important to protect yourself and the people that you love.”
The flu clinic is set for Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the Four States Fairgrounds from 9am until 3:30pm. There is no out of pocket cost to anyone regardless of insurance status. However, officials ask you to bring your insurance, medicaid or medicare card if you have one.
