A Magnolia man has been arrested and charged with vandalizing the Arkansas Welcome Center on Highway 71 North I Miller County.

Dustin Wade Otwell, 36, is charged with a felony criminal mischief for the April 30 incident that resulted in damaged plumbing, sewer, electronics and landscaping.

Milleer County Sheriff’s deputy Jeremy Cornett was dispatched to the Welcome Center around 7:30 a.m. that day, and made a report.

After receiving the report, MCSO Investigator Sam McJunkins reviewed surveillance video, which captured a red Chevrolet pickup and two unidentified white males at the center.

No license plate number was available on the video, but McJunkins issued an agency wide inquiry regarding the truck.

MCSO Cpl. Phillip Hardeman and Deputy Byron Bryant responded, recalling they encountered that truck on April 1 at a church on Highway 82 in Miller County.

They provided Investigator McJunkins with the vehicle’s license plate number.

After coordinating with the Magnolia, Arkansas Police Department, McJunkins was able to positively identify the driver of the truck who was captured on the surveillance video as Otwell,

A Felony Warrant for Criminal Mischief was issued for Otwell, which resulted in his arrest in Columbia County, Ark. Thursday.

Otwell was transferred to the Miller County Detention Center where he will have plenty of time to think about the wisdom of trashing a center created to extend hospitality to visitors.
