Historic downtown buildings will soon be apartments

Downtown Shreveport is becoming home to more people with new residential area’s taking over historic buildings. The United Mercantile Bank Building on the corner of Texas and Market St. is one of three buildings in downtown that is becoming a new apartment complex, with commercial renting on the bottom floor.
The new name of the bank is, The standard. There is only 500 residential units downtown and the new buildings will be adding another 140 units.

Lliz Swaine,  executive director of Downtown Development Authority says,”residential is a key component, of any truly revitalized downtown and we have been under built for residential forever.”

The Standard will start taking applications in September and October of this year. People can move in at the end of the year. The other two apartment complexes will be finished in late 2019.
