SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) Today, members of the KTAL staff received help from the folks at Home Depot on Airline as they worked together to replant the KTAL Community Garden.

In 2018, KTAL employees began a Community Garden in an effort to help people in our area who are in need. The project took on a life of its own, and it wasn’t unusual to see people out gardening before work, during their lunch break and even on weekends.

Last year, we were able to donate more than 70 pounds of vegetables and herbs to the Northwest Louisiana Food Bank, who then distributed it to our neighbors…and a few of us were able to enjoy some really good BLTs, as well.

Today was our spring planting day, and Home Depot volunteers helped us plant dozens of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cilantro, basil and this year, even watermelon plants were added to the crop.

After the work was done KTAL gardeners and Home Depot helpers enjoyed hamburgers and hot dogs cooked on our outdoor grill by our own master of all things barbecue, Tony Casson.

The morning ended with our Home Depot partners doing a photo shoot in the studio with Meteorologist Todd Warren, who came in early to begin plotting out maps for the predicted afternoon and evening severe weather forecast.
