The women living in a local shelter are given a special treat. Here’s one way the shelter is bringing happiness to the less fortunate.
22 women living at Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter are taking a break from the struggles of life to enjoy a day of pampering.”I feel absolutely fabulous,” said Pamela Pendergrass, shelter resident.
The spa day is filled with hair appointments, manicures, facials, massages and a shopping spree.”We were rockin it. We got the limo the music, the treats. A lot of times there’s a lot of tension this really helps all the ladies,” said Pendergrass.
Dede Kelley has been at the shelter a little over a month. After losing her job she found herself homeless. She’s putting that behind her with a fresh new look.”I just feel so much lighter, so much better. I don’t know it’s just like being a brand new person,” said Kelley.
Shelter officials say this event is all about reminding the ladies of their inner and outer beauty.”This is such a fun day. So often we have to focus on survival and we have to work on whose eating and whose showered and who needs a place to lay their heads and so, to be able to be apart of today where it’s so fun , so relaxed. It’s really a great day,” said Jennifer Laurent, Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter, Director.
Through beauty and pampering this simple act of kindness brings happiness to each woman.
“I guarantee you every woman here today that’s getting a hair cut and getting their nails done it’s making them feel better inside about themselves and it’s doing a little more good than anyone realizes,” said Kelley.
This is the third annual event and is in memory of shelter employee Julie Collins.
