Families in Dekalb, Texas wake up to destruction left behind by yesterday’s tornado.
The storm that hit leaves residents with homes destroyed. Many have lost nearly everything, but are grateful to be alive.
Jackie Hazlewood says, “We were very afraid. I was praying Jesus please take care of us and he did.”
An E-F-2 tornado shreds numerous trees, knocks down numerous power lines and destroys homes in its path.
Craig Hazlewood, took cover from the approaching storm. He adds,”The house started shaking. It was roaring. The ears were popping and uh it was pretty scary for a little bit.”
One resident’s property is unrecognizable. Up rooted trees surround the home. The windows of his cars are shattered and there is a hole in the roof.
Tracey Boyd says, “I feel kinda sad really. Kinda hurt inside, but I know I’ve got to go on. So there’s nothing I can do about it. It’s one of them thangs. So even though I’m hurt Im’a keep pushing.”
The new day sheds light on the damage left behind.
Jackie Hazlewood says, “We have holes in the ceiling. We have leaks all through the house and the rain blowed in. Every tree, nearly every tree we have is down.”
Monday, residents come together to help one another clean up and rebuild
Tracey Boyd adds,”Everybody just comes start pitching in. Friends and as you can see everyone is just, just willing to give me a helping hand. It’s just good.”
