I-49 construction entrance underwater

Flooding causes The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) to put Interstate 49 construction on hold.

The entrance way to the construction site on Russell Rd. is completely underwater.

DOTD says the road has a history of flooding.

McCain Creek is swollen from the rain and it’s spilling over into parts of the Martin Luther King area.

As a result, a couple of yards of vacant houses in the area are flooded.

“There will be some type of effect to the timeline of the construction project but that’s with any project. You know you’re at the mercy of the elements,” said spokeswoman for DOTD, Erin Buchanan.

DOTD will resume work when the water recedes and the area dries.

They predict the project will be delayed by a couple of weeks.
