The Jimmie Davis bridge is undergoing an environmental assessment to get federal funding for an $80,000 upgrade. Consultants are deciding whether or not to add two structures with 4 lanes and use the current bridge as a pedestrian walk way. Another option, to add one two lane bridge with a pedestrian walk way and rehab the current bridge. “We do want to emphasize that there’s been no delay in this project, that’s a word that’s been tossed around and it’s not accurate. The environmental assessment process is a fluid process that changes based on input that we get from the community and other partners. That’s what the consultants take back” says The Dept. of Transportation and Development’s spokeswoman Erin Buchannan. No word yet on how long the assessment will take.
