A federal judge recommends no reduction in sentence for an East Texas woman who sent ricin-laced letters to politicians back in 2013.

Shannon Richardson, of New Boston, was sentenced to 18 years in 2014 after pleading guilty to mailing ricin-laced letters to President Obama and former Mayor Bloomberg.

Three envelopes containing the natural, highly toxic compound derived from castor beans were mailed from Shreveport in May 2013, after records showed Richardson made online purchases of castor beans and lye, another component of ricin.
