Hunger is a major issue in Arkansas and students at Kilpatrick Elementary are raising awareness by encouraging folks to give back via YouTube .
“Some people have been going through hard times trying to get food and trying to buy groceries,” says Anayah Nelson, a student at Kilpatrick Elementary.
At Kilpatrick Elementary Anayah Nelson and her classmate walk the halls gathering and stacking mountains of cans for their 2nd Annual Hunger’s No Game 5K Fun Run . All proceeds are being donated to Harvest Regional Food Bank.
Kilpatrick counselor, Jeniffer Page says,”We want them to realize they can make a difference, but working together theirs more of a difference that can be made.”
Last year the students donated five-thousand cans. This year in just one week they’ve collected over 35-hundred cans.This year going online encouraging people to give.”Harvest Texarkana works hard to fight hunger in our community, so lets see if we can get even more cans donated this year.”
Camille Wrinkle, Executive Director at Harvest Regional Food Bank says,”our service area has about 60-thousand people struggling with hunger and one in four of them are children.”
