Local News

Louisiana House lawmakers approved a bill Monday that would generate more than $360 million in sales tax.

The bill from Republican Lance Harris passed with 76 votes.

The bill renews one-third of an expiring 1 percent sales tax and eliminate or lessen some sales tax breaks  until 2023.

It now heads to the Senate.

The state is dealing with a $648 million budget deficit when the fiscal year begins on July 1.
