Lawmakers may cut hospital budgets

If a current Louisiana budget passes, the state may not give anymore money towards private-partnership healthcare providers.

“This is catastrophic,” said LSU Health Chancellor G.E. Ghali. “This would totally implode healthcare in Louisiana. I agree that we need to stop where we are and we need to hit a reset button and not pass this current proposed budget.”

According to the House Appropriations Committee, if the budget passes, the state would give zero dollars towards hospitals like University Health and stop funding programs like LSU Health.

“These medical centers get a double hit,” said Louisiana senator Greg Tarver. “Through the hospitals and higher education.”

The Full House will begin debate on the budget on Thursday.
